Green Tea and Weight Loss - Eliminate the Lips to the Hips Syndrome

Early morning, you are ready for work you have time to enjoy that wonderful cup of green tea. The holidays have just passed and because of the little over-indulgence we all do, you have gained a few pounds. Now, you have heard that green tea has great benefits to your health, but now you wonder "Can this cup of tea I am drinking help me lose weight?" And you hear this little voice in the corner saying "Darn right it can!!!!" OK so you don't hear the voice in the corner but the fact still remains, Green Tea is a great way to help you lose weight
So is this Tea the "New Weight Loss Miracle? Not by a long shot but there are many studies and indications that say that the Green Tea from China offers many benefits that will lead to weight loss. For centuries green tea has been consumed by the Chinese for many reasons, and over the past few years it has become a very popular way to lose weight in our markets as well.

So why is Green Tea so effective in weight loss? It has a lot to do with the how it is processed. The tea leaves are steamed at a very high temperature allowing the nutritional enzymes to remain intact with very little loss in value. The fermenting process is bypassed in the processing unlike the processing of Oolong or Black Tea. Once through the process the tea leaves are rolled. It is said the tightness of the roll is the sign of its quality.
So how does this tea actually help in the reduction of weight? Let us count the ways:
Have you heard of the term "Thermogenesis"? It is the rate at which your body burns calories. How about a substance called Catechin that is found in high concentrations in this tea (it comes from the polyphenols family which is an extract found in plants). Research results have shown that Catechin may trigger weight loss by stimulating the body to burn calories and decreasing body fat. Some research has concluded that the rate of Thermogenesis can be increased up to 4% within a 24 hour period.
Green tea can also act as a regulator for glucose. After a meal our bodies see a rise in our blond sugar level which can lead to something called insulin spikes. These spikes will produce an excess of insulin which will promote the storage of fat. Research has shown that Catechin can limit the amount of fat absorption by not allowing the fat cells to absorb the glucose.
So are you a morning coffee drinker say with cream and sugar or for some double-double? Or are you a specialty coffee drinker enjoying a few frappucino, mocha or dappa in the morning? Do you know how many calories you are adding to your daily consumption with this? Have you heard the saying "From the Lips to the Hips"? But you are going to tell me you need your caffeine fix in the morning and the only way to get it is with the coffee and if I have to drink it, why not enjoy those specialty flavours? Well if you want to eliminate major calories in the morning and still get your caffeine and enjoy additional health benefits, maybe you should trying switching over to Green Tea. There is the definite possibility you will notice a big difference in the waist line in a few weeks.
As mentioned above, Green Tea is not a weight loss miracle. Don't expect that by going out and eating 2 Big Macs at McDonalds and then drinking 2 cups of Green tea that you will lose weight. It is not going to happen. You still need to have a proper diet and supplement it with the all the wonderful effects gained by adding Green Tea to your diet.
